The Assam government on Monday released the first tranche of interim relief of about Rs 75,000 each to flood-affected households, officials said on Monday.
The toll in the devastating deluge in Upper Assam rose to 85 as three more deaths were reported on Sunday even as the number of affected people dipped to 1.35 lakh, they said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is touring the worst-affected districts, released the first tranche of interim relief from Dibrugarh.
Families with severely damaged houses in Sivasagar, Chariadeo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts will receive Rs 15,000 per household, among other benefits being provided for the affected people in the first tranche, with total relief amounting to Rs 75,000 per household, the officials said.
Sarma is scheduled to visit parts of Sivasagar district during the day and oversee the relief and rehabilitation operations, while also interacting with the affected people.

In a relief to DMK leader and former minister V Senthil Balaji, the Supreme Court on Friday granted him anticipatory bail till further orders in a fresh corruption case lodged against him by the Tamil Nadu government led by Joseph Vijay.
A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi granted the relief to Balaji with certain conditions  that he will cooperate with the investigation, deposit his passport and not influence any witnesses.
"You immediately come to us even if there is slightest breach in bail conditions. We will modify or cancel our orders," Justice Bagchi told senior advocate Guru Krishnakumar appearing for the Tamil Nadu government.
Earlier in the day, Justice V Mohana recused herself from hearing the anticipatory bail plea of Balaji.
On Thursday, the top court agreed to hear Balaji's plea seeking pre-arrest bail in the fresh corruption case pertaining to alleged irregularities in the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC).

Capital markets regulator Sebi has levied fines totalling Rs 1 crore on Kalahridhaan Trendz and its promoters after finding that the SME company concealed a loan default and misled investors through false corporate announcements.
Kalahridhaan Trendz Ltd (KTL) is in the business of manufacturing and trading of various types of fabrics and was listed on the NSE's SME platform Emerge.
Sebi restrained KTL and its promoter and Managing Director Niranjan D Agarwal from the securities markets for two years. Directors Aditya N Agarwal and Sunitadevi Niranjan Agarwal have been prohibited for one year.
In a 57-page final order on Thursday Sebi found that KTL failed to disclose its default in repayment of HDFC Bank credit card dues within the timeline mandated under the Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations.
The company admitted during the proceedings that the disclosure should have been made but attributed the lapse to an inadvertent omission.

Pensioners' body EPS95 National Agitation Committee on Monday called for a nationwide protest on August 5, in support of their demand for a minimum monthly pension of Rs 7,500 under the Employee Pension Scheme.
Presently, the minimum monthly pension under the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) is Rs 1,000, which was enforced on September 1, 2014. The EPS is run by retirement body EPFO.
According to a press release issue by the committee, thousands of pensioners covered under EPS-95 are set to gather at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on August 5, as part of a nationwide protest demanding long-pending pension reforms.
The demonstration has been called by the EPS95 National Agitation Committee, which says years of representations, peaceful protests, and appeals to the government have failed to bring any meaningful policy decision, it stated.

Following the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has floated a Rs 7.5-crore tender for round-the-clock security services at its headquarters at Minto Road, regional offices at Okhla, storage facilities and other notified locations.
According to the tender document, the move aims to safeguard NTA's personnel, visitors, assets, premises, records, confidential examination material, server rooms, strong rooms and other critical infrastructure.
The July 25 Request for Proposal (RFP) said the estimated contract value is "Rs 7.5 crore plus GST (tentative) for a 2-year contract without variation".
Bids can be submitted until 3 pm on August 17, and the printing-services tender closes on August 20, it said. The contract will initially remain valid for two years and can be extended for two additional one-year periods, subject to satisfactory performance, mutual consent and approval of the competent authority.
